Tell Me How You Breathe - NOTE NEW LOCATION

Thursday Jul 20th 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
@ VT College of Fine Arts Green, Montpelier

"Tell Me How You Breathe:" by the LOOM Ensemble Wildfires choke the air, police steal breath, and respiratory disease halts business-as-usual. The lungs are the site of interconnectedness and the organ of grief. Though these intersecting crisis were highlighted in 2020, in many ways they continue to intensify. “Who gets to breathe freely, fully, with ease,” is still a necessary question, directly touching on racism, environmental crisis, and public health. In “Tell Me How You Breathe,” Loom Ensemble is bringing a diverse ensemble of professional dance-theater performers into public parks across New England, to move the grief up and out. With the nourishment of participatory ceremony and song, Loom grounds this political conversation in the physical body, to incite the radical act of collectively imagining a more just and beautiful world.

Diane Sophrin: Extrapolations and Commentary, Artist's Talk

Thursday Jul 20th 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm
@ The Front, 6 Barre St., Montpelier

Join us on Thursday, 6 PM at The Front, for Diane Sophrin's artist talk on her solo show, Extrapolations & Commentary We invite you to share a reprieve from the flood with Diane Sophrin, whose solo show Extrapolations and Commentary is on display through July 30th. The artist's talk will explore three series of works spanning three years and two continents, and is scheduled for this Thursday, July 20th, from 6:00 to 7:00 in the gallery. The Front was amazingly spared by last week's catastrophic flood in downtown Montpelier (the water came to our curb but not over), and after careful consideration, we're carrying on and open as usual during the recovery! Barre Street is open and the sidewalk is clear, although there are still road closures in downtown Montpelier, and you may have some difficulty navigating and parking in your usual spots. Also, be aware that flood cleanup continues in the City and air quality indoors and outdoors may be iffy for some. There is widespread flood silt on the streets, but none in the Gallery itself. Please take whatever precautions you feel necessary. Again, we hope to see you this Thursday at 6:00 in the gallery! To learn more about the show, see our website. Thank you and stay safe.
