Concert by Onion River Chorus

The Onion River Chorus performs Gioachino Rossini’s unique Petite messe solennelle. The 60-voice Onion River Chorus will be joined by soprano Lillian Broderick, countertenor Timothy Parsons, tenor Adam Hall, and bass Erik Kroncke. Pianist Mary Jane Austin and organist Lynnette Combs will also be featured. Richard Riley will conduct.  Admission is $20; those 18 and under are free. Tickets are available at sevendaystickets.com and at the door. Due to flood damage to the Unitarian Church’s elevator last summer, the church is not handicapped accessible.

A walk to find spring wildflowers as well as new plant growth. We'll do an easy hike to the new part of Hubbard Park. including rich deciduous woods below cliffs. Mending Workshop

Have you ever wondered how to repair beloved clothes that are showing signs of wear? Learn how to mend your clothes in an empowering beginner-friendly workshop. The focus will be on repairing woven cloth garments and household items using simple tools and hand sewing techniques. Students will learn the basics of mending and the "why" of mending - the life cycle of clothing. Students are encouraged to bring 1-3 projects to work on, and will leave with the skills necessary to tackle a wide variety of mending opportunities. All tools and materials will be provided (scissors, pins and needles, thread and fabric). Students are also welcome to bring their own tools and supplies, and mending kits will be available for purchase from the instructor for $30 (optional). I want the best of all for when these young seeds grow, they are going to need you (the people listening), as they need the sunshine, the joy of the universe…Wabanaki Prayer for the Seeds (Traditional) The Seeds of Renewal Project's introductory-level Indigenous planting program is designed for farmers, gardeners, anthropologists, and people generally interested in food systems. It is taught by Dr. Frederick M. Wiseman, an ethnobotanist with experience in desert Southwest, Mexico, Central America, and Wabanaki food systems. The program is free, but space is limited and registration is required.

Waltzing from 7:00 to 7:45 will be an extra treat before the regular Montpelier Contra Dance from 8:00 to 11:00. Music for both will be by Springtide, a delightful band from Maine. Caller, Hannah will also teach a brief introduction/refresher lesson starting at 7:45 when the waltzing ends, until it's time to line up for contra dances at 8:00. Join us for an evening of dye magic! We’ll provide wine and nonalcoholic beverages so we can ‘cheers’ each other as we create. Learn the art of Shibori and Indigo dyeing, while enjoying the company of friends and neighbors. Shibori is a Japanese dye technique that typically involves folding, twisting, wrapping, bunching or sewing cloth and binding it, then dipping it into an indigo vat. The binds in the fabric will resist the dye, creating beautiful and interesting patterns with different shades of blue.

Spring Birding at North Branch Nature Center

FREE at North Branch Nature Center Part of our Friday morning spring birding series. A casual morning of birding for all interests and experience levels facilitated by NBNC staff and guest leaders. These outings are about enjoying, learning about, and spending time with wild birds. No binoculars? No ID guide? No problem! The only requirement is an appreciation of birds (though we do have binoculars for those who would like them). This outing covers between 0.25 and .6 miles. Terrain and surface: The trails are 6’-wide grass paths over compacted dirt. The trails are flat with no cross-grade. One 20’ section of the trail has a 10% grade over a 100’ distance, and can be avoided. There are several benches along the route.

Join in for chalking, poetry, and “strut the walk” fashion takeovers. Fest is on Statehouse Lawn from 4-7pm with music with a local DJ, pole dance performances featuring Rivers Way Movement Studio, community organizations, resources and more! The Fest will end with a 6:45pm gathering to Parade along the sidewalk down Court St, across School St, down Main Street and turning onto State St to end back at the Statehouse Lawn. The Onion River Chorus performs Gioachino Rossini’s unique Petite messe solennelle. The 60-voice Onion River Chorus will be joined by soprano Lillian Broderick, countertenor Timothy Parsons, tenor Adam Hall, and bass Erik Kroncke. Pianist Mary Jane Austin and organist Lynnette Combs will also be featured. Richard Riley will conduct.  Admission is $20; those 18 and under are free. It is taught by Dr. Frederick M. Wiseman, an ethnobotanist with experience in desert Southwest, Mexico, Central America, and Wabanaki food systems. The program is free, but space is limited and registration is required.
