"The Art of Water", a Group Exhibit from the Art Resource Association

4:30pm-7:30pm "The Art of Water", a Group Exhibit from the Art Resource Association

On the evening of Friday, June 6th, Vermont Natural Resources Council (VNRC) will be hosting a reception for “The Art of Water”, a group show organized by the Art Resource Association (ARA). Water provides and invites creativity and imagination. Either as a mirror - reflecting the surrounding environment upside down, ever-moving and ever-changing - or, as a sculptor, carving a new path in a riverbank changing a river's course after the rage of a flood. Water is rain, snow, fog, and mist - a stream, a pond, a puddle, a lake, an ocean. Water can be shallow or deep, light or dark, colorful, gentle, or full of immense power. Water sustains life and is full of life. It is the Art of Water. The exhibit features 24 artists from across Central Vermont and showcases a diverse display of style, technique and medium. We hope you will come out and show your support for these local artists, many of whom will be on site to talk about the inspiration behind their work. Doors will be open to the public from 4:30 to 7:30 pm. Light refreshments will be served while supplies last. Additional visiting hours for “The Art of Water” are from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on May 14th, June 11th, June 18th, June 25th

Second Monday Circle Sing!

7:00pm-8:45pm Second Monday Circle Sing!

Montpelier's Monthly Circle Sing We gather every second Monday at the Montpelier Performing Arts HUB on 35 College St. Dive into collaborative vocal magic with your neighbors. New folks are always welcome. What is "Circle Singing?" In a super supportive, playful, and judgment-free space, you're invited to explore singing the music of the moment. Together we interweave musical patterns, rhythms, harmonies, melodies, movement, words, percussive sounds, and come out with a lot of joy and aliveness. In the traditions of Bobby McFerrin, Rhiannon, Zuza Gonçalves, and others, we co-create the songs we need to sing and share. Our listening, trust and willingness to share our imperfect voices leads us through a little vulnerability and into music and connection that deeply feeds our hearts and souls. Feel free to reach out with questions at [email protected] — I’m happy to share more about what to expect. RSVP to [email protected]. Payment of $20-$40 can be sent via Venmo (@David-Ruffin-Voice) or in cash at the event. While payment at the time of RSVPing is not required, it is much appreciated and guarantees your spot. Come on out and make some beauty!

Hunger Mountain Co-op Dinner & Discussion

5:00pm-7:00pm Hunger Mountain Co-op Dinner & Discussion

The Hunger Mountain Co-op Council invites members to our annual Dinner and Discussion. This year’s event begins a multi-layered process to define the Co-op’s future. It has been 13 years since our last visioning process, and it feels like a good time to evaluate our resources, our goals, and where we want to go as an organization. We welcome member-owners to contribute their ideas and perspectives. After all, a food co-op is a store that’s democratically owned by members of the community. Co-ops are a significant part of American history with great examples in Vermont: Cabot Co-operative Creamery and Washington Electric are example of 20th century initiatives. The nation’s oldest food co-op is in Adamant, founded in 1935. Throughout the 20th century, Vermonters established food, housing and workers co-ops, even artist co-ops. Today, some food co-ops are diversifying their businesses to include enterprises such as hardware stores and gas stations, in addition to providing delicious, healthy, and local foods. Where should we put our resources next? We need your input! Please join us. Registration is open until June 19 at 8 pm.

General Lafayette meets with the women of Montpelier!

8:30am-9:30am General Lafayette meets with the women of Montpelier!

Due to the late hour of Lafayette’s arrival the night before, a meeting with the women of Montpelier was postponed until the next morning. It might not have happened but for the persistence of local artist Sarah Isham Watrous, who may have been one of only two women to have formally addressed Lafayette on the entire tour. Their moving words will be re-enacted at the Bethany Church on Main Street, site of the original meeting. Although the old brick church from 1820 is gone, the current church retains a Paul Revere bell also dating from 1825. The public is invited to the morning meeting, but now as then only the women (Attorney General Clark, Rep. McCann) will be offering their welcome to General Lafayette before he leaves for his next stop on the way to Burlington. This meeting was the beginning of the last day of the official visit which had begun in June of 1824!
