Founding Engineering Faculty (Open-Rank, Full-Time)
Greenway Institute
Summary
Founding faculty role helping build a new model of engineering education focused on hands-on learning, industry experience, and accessible, student-centered design. Full-time, in-person role based in Montpelier.
Description
Greenway Institute is reimagining engineering education from the ground up.
We believe engineering education needs a reboot—one that is more affordable, more accessible, and more closely aligned with real-world career and life success. Traditional models are often costly, outdated, and inaccessible to many students. Greenway is building something different.
In our model, students learn engineering by practicing engineering from day one. Half of their time is spent on campus engaged in collaborative, purpose-driven, project-based learning that connects technical skills with the “why” behind engineering work. The other half is spent in industry residencies, supported by mentorship and structured instruction—creating a true “earn and learn” pathway that reduces cost barriers while increasing real-world readiness.
We are beginning with a prototype site in Vermont, with national ambitions for the future. This is a rare opportunity to help build a new kind of higher education institution from the ground up.
What We Believe
We believe engineering education should reflect what engineers actually do: design, collaborate, manage projects, and create value.
It should integrate technical learning with sustainability, ethics, and equity. It should be grounded in deep experiential learning and meaningful mentorship. It should graduate students who are autonomous, creative, self-directed learners—capable of leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving in a rapidly changing world.
We also believe this requires more than a new curriculum. It requires a new educational culture and a new institutional model designed specifically for transformation.

Who We’re Looking For
We are building our founding faculty team and seek creative, energetic, and collaborative individuals for full-time, open-rank positions.
We welcome applicants from a wide range of backgrounds, including:
We are especially interested in individuals who are excited about mentoring students through hands-on, project-based learning and contributing to a new educational model from the ground up.
If you are energized by the opportunity to help launch a new institution and shape the future of higher education, we encourage you to apply.
