7:00pm-8:00pm Gamelan Sulukala Performs Javanese & Contemporary Music in MontpelierIn a rare concert performance, your local Javanese orchestra Gamelan Sulukala will appear for one night only at 7:00 pm. Birthed in the late 1960’s by Dennis Murphy as a village gamelan made of hand-crafted instruments, and nurtured through the 2000s by Steven and Kathy Light, this orchestra has survived through multiple permutations, personnel changes and migrations to once again offer a program of traditional and contemporary pieces, including premiere performances of three new compositions by members of the group. Javanese Gamelan is a group - or orchestra - of about 30 instruments ranging from huge gongs to tiny flutes with lots of xylophone and kettle type instruments in between. BalFolk Workshop+Jam and Dance

Eloise & Co. (Rachel Bell and Becky Tracy) lead a music workshop + jam combo from 3:30-5:30 pm. They'll teach a couple of tunes and leave lots of time to play more. The music is accessible so even if you don't have a repertoire of BalFolk tunes you can pick up many on the fly. Pre-registration preferred, $20. Potluck dinner from 5:30-7:00pm. Bring a dish to share and your own plates/utensils if possible (some disposable ware also provided). BalFolk dance from 7:00-9:00 pm. Rachel and Becky will play the tunes and will show you how to do the dances. Easy and fun dances, no partner needed. $10/$5 for kids under 16 at the door.

Super Maker Saturdays: A Sculpture, Acrylics, And Making Class For Preschoolers

This makerspace class is specially designed for our youngest creators, a first step into building and making with different materials and techniques. Each week, students will have the chance to create a work of art using a different skill — acrylic pours, plaster casting, wood sculpture, weaving, and more. Each material offers children a different sensory and creating experience, allowing children to instinctively study and understand each material's properties and strengths.
