Bringing Light to the Darkest Months

If you’ve strolled through downtown Montpelier lately, you’ve likely noticed the breathtaking glow of our bridges. The Bridge Illumination Project has transformed our cityscape, connecting neighborhoods and adding warmth to our winter nights. Thanks to Montpelier Alive and community supporters, seven bridges are now professionally lit, with colors and effects changing to match seasonal celebrations. The lights bring a vibrant energy to our evenings and encourage visitors to explore, dine, and shop locally. If you haven’t yet, take a moment to admire the display—it’s a true celebration of resilience and community spirit!

Spice on Snow: A Musical Homecoming

After a five-year hiatus, the Spice on Snow Winter Music Festival made a triumphant return to Montpelier from January 17–19, filling the city with the sounds of Cajun and Old-Time music. The festival brought incredible energy downtown, with concerts, jam sessions, family-friendly workshops, and more. From foot-stomping dances to intimate performances, it was a weekend of warmth and joy in the heart of winter.

Winterfest: A Weekend of Fun for All Ages

From January 31 to February 2, Montpelier turned into a winter playground for Winterfest 2025! Families and friends gathered for a weekend of outdoor adventures and cozy indoor activities. Highlights included:

  • The Frozen Onion Fat Bike Demo and the beloved Cardboard Box Sled Derby, where creativity met competition on the snowy slopes.

  • Horse-drawn wagon rides through downtown, offering a charming way to take in the winter scenery.

  • The Stuffie Search, an adorable scavenger hunt along ski trails for kids (and kids at heart!).

  • Indoor fun at City Center, with face painting, crafts, games, and a special screening of Groundhog Day.

  • And, of course, Ice on Fire, a community celebration of deep winter with music, theater, and storytelling.

Winterfest reminded us that even in the coldest months, Montpelier knows how to bring people together for warmth, laughter, and adventure!

Though Valentine's Day has come and gone, the spirit of the Valentine’s Phantom remains—just like the love Montpelier holds for its community. The mystery of the anonymous hearts reminds us that even in the depths of winter, there’s warmth to be found in small acts of kindness and the charm of our city of bridges. So, whether you’re dining out, shopping local, or simply strolling through town, let that same love for Montpelier carry you through the season.
