MONTEVERDI MUSIC SCHOOL BRINGS PORCHFEST TO TOWN WITH SUPPORT FROM VERMONT COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

Montpelier, VT.  (June 11, 2026) — Montpelier’s neighborhoods will come alive with music this fall on Sunday, September 20th, as Montpelier welcomes its first (sure to be) annual Porchfest. With the generous support of the Vermont Community Foundation, Monteverdi Music School’s dream of bringing Porchfest – a free, laid-back celebration of music and community – to Montpelier will become a reality.

Started in Ithaca, NY, in 2007, Porchfest has spread across the U.S., Canada, and even to Australia, over the past 20 years, with the largest and nearest celebration in Somerville, MA. It is a free music festival where attendees are encouraged to stroll, scoot, cycle, or drive from porch to porch, driveway to driveway, neighborhood to neighborhood, to enjoy a day filled with music, community, and connection.

"Porchfest is such a joyful event; it’s entirely about celebrating music, building community together with old friends and new ones you’ll make that day.” Jolynda Burton, executive director of Monteverdi Music School beamed, “it’ll be such fun to hear from the many musicians that Central Vermont boasts and to just bask in the vibrancy and love of Montpelier.”

Details are being hammered out now by the MPOP (Montpelier People Organizing Porchfest!), community partners, and Montpelier Neighbor Net, but expect dozens of porches and driveways to host musicians of all genres, ages, and backgrounds. Visit Montpelierporchfest.org to get in touch while we build out the site where we’ll compile porches, musicians, and volunteers.

### The Vermont Community Foundation was established in 1986 as an enduring source of philanthropic support for Vermont communities. A family of more than 1,000 funds, foundations, and supporting organizations, the Foundation makes it easy for the people who care about Vermont to find and fund the causes they love. The Community Foundation and its partners put more than $60 million annually to work in Vermont communities and beyond. The heart of its work is closing the opportunity gap—the divide that leaves too many Vermonters struggling to get ahead, no matter how hard they work. The Community Foundation envisions Vermont at its best—where everyone can build a bright, secure future. vermontcf.org
