VNRC Presents "Mapping the Wilderness", artwork by Jill Madden

12:00am-12:00am VNRC Presents "Mapping the Wilderness", artwork by Jill Madden

From July through September, VNRC is proud to present artwork from Jill Madden of Weybridge. Madden's exhibit, "Mapping the Wilderness", a mixture of oil paintings on linen and gouache paintings on watercolor paper, explores the unique wilderness areas of the Green Mountains. This swath of mountains, rivers and forest along the spine of the Green Mountains has become Madden's primary studio space, with shifting seasons, light sources, temperatures and textures providing daily challenges and highlighting the contrasts that often exist between experience and memory. A recurring theme in these paintings is the strong sense of place and interconnectedness, especially evident in her work over topographic maps. In addition to their aesthetic value, Madden's scenic compositions also serve as a reminder of what we need to conserve. You can see more of her work at www.jillmadden.com. On Friday, August 5, VNRC will host an opening reception for Madden's exhibit to coincide with Montpelier Art Walk. Doors will be open to the public from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, and Jill will be onsite to talk about her methods and inspiration. Additional visiting hours during the work week are posted on our website. VNRC continues to seek out local artists whose work connects with or complements our mission to protect and enhance our natural environments and wildlife, vibrant communities, productive working landscapes, rural character and unique sense of place. For inquiries or to arrange a visit, contact Alex Connizzo at [email protected].
