Painting Peace

4:30pm-7:00pm Painting Peace

There are many ways to cultivate peace in one’s self to then bring peace into the world. Painting a Zen circle, or ens, is an ancient Japanese practice done with brush, ink and paper. It’s speculated that it was originally something a master did to witness their own mind or possibly a master painted one for a student to recognize the wordless expression of oneness. In contemporary times, Zen circles can be painted by anyone and have become a popular visual representation of peace. Part of the Montpelier Art Walk, a table will be set up with paper, brushes, and paints for individuals to explore present moment experience and paint their own ens or any spontaneous expression. A guided community peace meditation will set intention for the painting of a large ens?. Anyone present can add drops of colored paint to the paper to be included in the final painting. The completed colorful ens painting will be auctioned off to support the Flood Relief Fund for Neighbors through Montpelier Alive.

Theory of Change - Interactive Workshop

Wednesday Aug 14th 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
@ Unitarian Church of Montpelier

This summer's floods are devastating, not just to our communities but to our mental and emotional orientation. For many, it can feel like we've passed the point of hope for our climate and our futures. But for centuries, social movements have defied expectations, to create change where none was thought possible. Join 350VT as we bring these two framings into conversation with one another. We'll discuss together how grassroots organizing can be a tool to respond with the urgency our crisis requires, and the role of community organizations and grassroots organizing in the climate crisis. Food will be provided.
