Mid-Spring Check in

As we approach the halfway point of May, the Spring season is helping Montpelier truly come to life - with rising temperatures, flowering trees, and the sounds of birds chirping after a long and cold winter. With warmer days and longer evenings, now is the perfect time to explore all that Spring brings to downtown Montpelier.

Walking and hiking are some of the best ways to get outside and stretch your muscles after a cold and snowy winter inside. Vermont, known for its uniquely beautiful landscapes, offers a plethora of beautiful trails just a short drive away from Montpelier’s downtown. Hubbard park and North Branch River park offer wonderfully scenic views across a multitude of trails, perfect for a leisurely stroll or beginner hike. For those looking for more of a challenge, Mt Hunger and White Rock Mountain host trails ranging from moderate to difficult, less than 30 minutes from Montpelier’s downtown. Both located in the CC Putnam State Forest, these mountains offer spectacular views of the Vermont countryside.

And don't forget our illuminated bridges! Taking a stroll after the sun sets along the river will provide you with many luminous views from approximately 8-11pm. Currently the bridges are colored as glowing rainbows, in celebration of Montpelier Alive's 25th anniversary, Pride Month, and the birth of Spring!

As the weather gets warmer, visiting your local farmers market is the perfect way to interact with the community, all the while enjoying fresh produce and artisan crafts. Stop by the Capital City Farmers Market, located in the heart of downtown on State Street, every Saturday from May through October from 9am -1pm.

While getting outside is one of the best ways to enjoy spring, Vermont is notorious for its rainy season. For those rainy days, cozy up at Capitol Grounds Cafe, perhaps with a new read from Bear Pond Books. Take in the sounds of rain falling against the window, while indulging in the smell of coffee and fresh-baked pastries.

Looking for local events and fun springtime activities? Don't forget to peruse our community calendar for fun and exciting events happening around Montpelier.

There may be construction happening on State Street, but downtown is open for shopping and dining! From flowers to candy, dog food to kids' toys, from clothing boutiques to crystals, to your favorite place to grab a bite, our local businesses are what make this community so special.
