Creative Aging Celebration – Friday, June 2nd from 2:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at VCFA This free community event, held at the Vermont College of Fine Arts (VCFA) during Montpelier's Art Walk, will feature an open gallery exhibit of creative work by older artists in Central Vermont plus fun live workshops and creative activities. Treats and drinks will be available by donation. Live workshops and activities will include: a participatory collage project, a writing workshop, a painting activity, an Ageless Grace program, live music with sing along, an ageism awareness activity, and an opportunity to record legacy stories. This event is made possible by the Vermont Arts Council and support from local businesses and partners. This is a free event. No tickets required! (Donations are greatly appreciated.) During June's Art Walk, printmaker Uncle Erok (a.k.a. Erik Gillard) will show his original linoleum block prints. He'll also have blocks and tools on hand for visitors to make their own prints. Uncle Erok is an artist, activist, mentor, poet, muralist, and printmaker living in the Western Abenaki lands of north central Vermont.

In conjunction with Montpelier Art Walk, Vermont Natural Resources Council (VNRC) is hosting a reception for Gretchen Alexander on Friday, June 2nd. Alexander’s exhibit, “Fantastic Floodplains”, is a collection of watercolor and acrylic paintings that highlight the importance and beauty of floodplains. Bridging science and art, the show is inspired by Alexander’s long career as a river ecologist. Our office will be open to visitors from 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm, with light refreshments available as supplies last.

How do you know when to shift? What are some tips for biking uphill and downhill? What is a derailleur and how does it work? Why is it important to lubricate a chain and how do you do it? This session will address all of these questions and more. Classroom time will be followed by an optional, guided bicycle ride. All who wish to participate in the ride must arrive with a bicycle in good working order and must wear a helmet. Although there is no charge for this session, pre-registration is required. Please join us to learn how the City of Burlington developed the 30-unit Elmwood Emergency Shelter Community, which is located in downtown Burlington and is part of the Mayor’s 10-Point Plan to Fulfill the Promise of Housing as a Human Right. Representatives from the project team will provide details on timeline, permitting, costs, and construction, as well as an account of the first three months of shelter operations: their guest selection process, services provided, early challenges, and successes to date. Wednesday June 7, 2023 at Kellogg-Hubbard Library 6:30 – 8:00. This event will be live-streamed and filmed by ORCA Media. Presented by the Montpelier Homelessness Task Force.

Michael Arnowitt: East Meets West

Exploring influences between Asian and Western classical piano music, Michael plays Mozart, Debussy, Turkish, Chinese and Russian composers and more. Pianist, composer, and event organizer Michael Arnowitt is one of the most creative musicians of today. His imaginative musical landscapes, extraordinary sense of touch at the piano, and warm onstage personality have delighted audiences in concert halls around the world. He lives in the USA and Canada and has given piano performances in France, Belgium, Germany, Holland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Russia, and Korea. His life and music is the subject of a documentary film, “Beyond 88 Keys” (2004). The documentary, filmed in both the USA and Europe, contains footage of concert performances, educational talks, and interviews. The film has been broadcast on public television and shown at a variety of film festivals and venues including the Rode Pomp, an arts center in Gent, Belgium and the Anthology, a theater in New York City’s East Village. Once international touring resumes, he will be performing an 8 concert tour of China with the guitarist Steve Blair where the duo will perform in Beijing and other Chinese cities.

Together we will raise more money for Prevent Child Abuse Vermont than we ever could alone! This event started in 2016 and we are SO HAPPY to return to an in-person community yoga class on June 21st 2023 from noon-1 pm on the State House Lawn. This year our fundraising efforts will remain online, while our community yoga and meditaiton class is FREE and open to all people regardless of age, background, and story, Want to help?
